Vendor Spotlight | All About You Productions

February 7, 2014

I have gotten the chance to get to know other vendors in the wedding industry since my move to Michigan, and I hopefully will have the joy to work with them more in the future.  When my clients ask for referrals I will only refer them to people that I know, trust, and have complete faith in.  I’ve decided to post once a month with a little bit more information on a vendor that I love 🙂

Today I want to talk about Melissa of All About You Productions.  She has a cute bubbly personality that is so easy to get along with.  You know instantly that when she says she cares about you and your day, she is absolutely genuine.  She cares about her couples, her vendors, and pretty much everyone she comes in contact with.

I asked her a handful of questions so we would have a chance to get to know her a little better:

How long have you been a wedding planner?

For 4 years.

What got you interested in starting your business?

I discovered wedding planning in college, and I tried to find a job with a wedding planner after college which was really hard.  I couldn’t find anything; people wanted free interns, and it wasn’t something I could do at that point in my life.  I was pregnant with my second child, working in property management, and I just decided I was going to go for it and start my own business.  So I did! By the time I had my son, I quit when he was 8 weeks old and started doing it full time!

What sets you apart from other wedding planners in the wedding industry?

I think the more hands on design approach that I have.  A lot of different planners that I’ve met, or I know, are more into the planning, getting the vendors, that sort of thing.  I really like to design and use the creative side that I have.  Not just the organization and finding vendors, ya know?  I like to make things, and a lot of planners don’t really do that.

What do you enjoy the most about working in the wedding industry?

I love making someone’s day theirs. Really figuring out who they are, and making their wedding reflect them.  And pulling them away from the cookie cutter, the traditional weddings, I like things to be different.

What inspires you?

Everything pretty **giggle**.  And things that are different.  I’m a pinterest junkie; I love looking on there for inspiration and coming up with ideas of what I can do for brides.

What is your biggest tip for brides and grooms?

To not go so much into what they’re supposed to have but what they want.  Not focus on what everyone else wants, but what they actually want and what’s most important to them.  Focus on those things first!  If they’re food is really important, then we’ll make sure food is a top priority.  Your wedding budget doesn’t have to be spread out evenly like it says on The Knot, ya know? Put your money toward what you want it to go toward.

What current trend in weddings do you like the most?

I really like the soft colors right now.  The peach, the mint, things like that.  And flowers that are different; not just the roses and tulips.

What is your favorite part of the wedding day?

The ceremony!  Really, I know it’s so cliché, but when the groom and the bride see each other for the first time.  If they do a first look, then that’s my favorite.  I love when bride’s and groom’s do that.

Anything else we should know about you?

A lot of people have the misconception that they can’t afford wedding planners or day of coordinators.  They just think of the movie with Jennifer Lopez. **giggle** They  have this crazy idea of walkie talkies; do you know how many people ask me if I have a walkie talkie? So many! We can actually help them save money.  I have a lot of budget brides and I can find them ways to save, and in the long run it can actually save more money to have a planner or day of coordinator.
