10 Questions to Ask | Wedding Videographer

May 6, 2020

Photography is super important (obviously!) but the one downside is that it doesn’t capture sound. Photography doesn’t record the crack in his voice when he says his vows, or your dad’s toast which is full of his typical jokes. All of this is where videography comes in!

Today I have the super sweet and amazing Bailey from Enlow Productions!! I had the joy of working with her on a wedding last year, and I knew immediately that we would be friends! She is so much fun to be around, and a joy to work with (which is super important to me when it comes to videographers!!) We’ve started planning my new promo videos, so keep an eye for that in the next few months (hopefully)!!

10 Questions to Ask When Booking Your Wedding Videographer

1 | What does your booking process look like?

It’s definitely important to know ahead of time what the booking process entails. Most companies will require a deposit and will have a contract for you to fill out! We send our clients our packages, set up a phone consultation and discuss what best fits their needs! After receiving the deposit, our clients fill out the contract and we keep in touch from there!

2 | Can I get ads-ons or raw footage?

This is a great question to ask! Sometimes clients want their full ceremony recorded or maybe their speeches from the reception. We offer add-ons with our packages as well as raw footage! It’s nice to look back on your day and see each special moment that happened, that you may of forgotten about!

3 | What is your turn-around time?

It’s important to establish ahead of time when you can expect your film back. Wedding season can be hectic and most vendors will need time to perfect your film! Our turnaround time is usually anywhere from 2-5 weeks. Check with your vendor so there are no questions or concerns when your day comes and goes!

4 | How will I receive my film? Online? In the mail?

As I’m sure most companies do things differently, it is 2020. We offer online delivery for our clients to be able to download their footage! It may also be an option to get your footage delivered on a USB or hard drive. Discuss these options and decide what works best for you!

5 | Will we meet before the wedding day?

We believe it’s very important to get to know each other before the big day! Meeting your vendor ahead of time can alleviate any awkwardness you may have in front of the camera. We love to meet our clients over coffee and even become friends before their wedding day arrives!

6 | Will you include our vows or audio in the film?

If audio is something that’s important to you, this is a great question to ask! Hearing your vows or reading letters to each other can drastically impact your film. If you want the more emotional and heart-tugging style added to your film, you’ll definitely want audio! Make sure your vendor has good audio equipment as well.

7 | How long have you been filming weddings?

With any job, you’ll want to hire someone who is established and knows what they are doing. Experience plays a huge role and it’s important that the videographer has experience filming weddings.

8 | How long do you keep our footage after the wedding?

If your budget is running tight towards the wedding day, it’s nice to know if your vendor will offer extra footage after your day has come and gone. We keep each clients footage for 6 months after their wedding! If you decide you want raw footage or extra parts from your day, we keep that as an option!

9 | What is your filming style during the wedding day? Will you work well with our photographer?

Hiring a vendor that gets along with others is important for obvious reasons! You’ll want to know if your videographer will be discreet or if they like to run the show. We like to stay in the background and be as discreet as possible during your day. It’s also very important that we communicate with the photographer throughout the entire process!

10 | Can we help pick out the style of our film?

Most the time when you hire a videographer, you like their style already. Be sure to ask if you can pick whether your film is romantic, cinematic, or even upbeat and fun! It may also be a good idea to see if you can suggest a genre of music for your film as well. We are always open to suggestions and ideas!

Bailey also wanted to make sure clients considered this; ” If you’re not hiring a wedding coordinator, my tip would be to designate a friend or family member to take care of gathering people for photos, lighting candles, setting things up, etc so you don’t have to stress about it. Make sure the person you designate has a loud voice and is not afraid to boss people around.”

For those out there who are engaged or married…what questions did you ask (or wish you would have asked) your wedding videographer?  I’d love to hear other questions that you found to be helpful while picking the perfect videographer!
