Michael & Mary | Cozy At-Home Engagement Session

March 6, 2018

When Michael & Mary scheduled their engagement session for February, we knew it might be cold.  We had a plan for their session, but also knew that if it really got chilly we might have to adjust.  Well, the week of their session it was forecasted to be 15°…so we started talking about a new plan.  Mary had the wonderful idea of doing part of their session at home.  I LOVE at home sessions because they give me a chance to showcase the life that these two have built and will continue to build together.  You spend so much of your life at home, and it becomes a consistent backdrop for the stories of your marriage so it’s really a special thing to showcase in your engagement session.  We started at their home, just wandering around to all of the fun little nooks and crannies.  Michael even pulled out his guitar at the end to treat us to a little song 🙂

We decided that we still wanted something a bit fancy (since you only do this whole thing once) so we spent a few minutes at the Nelson-Atkins!  Boy was it cold…but these two were troopers and we powered through.  I’m so very glad I we did!!  Mary’s beautiful burgundy gown looked stunning against the creamy backdrop of the Nelson and gives them a bit of variety to their session.  These two definitely had the best of both worlds…comfy images at home, and glammed up images at a beautiful KC location!

I am so excited to photograph these two again at their wedding in October at The Elms Hotel & Spa…it’s going to be such a beautiful day!!
