Michael & Taryn | Garden of the Gods Colorado Engagement Session

May 1, 2018

Michael and Taryn met in college at the University of Alabama.  As they spent time together marching in the Million Dollar Band (Alabama’s marching band) and traveling all over for away and post season games their love grew and grew.  After being together at school, and apart as Michael graduated and got a job away from Alabama and Taryn traveled the world to study abroad, their love continued to grow.  They were back together again when they moved in together, and eventually moved to Colorado…and Michael decided it was time to pop the question.  Taryn’s family had planned a trip to Hawaii in which Michael was tagging along.  Taryn was so very much hoping Michael would propose, but he promised it just wasn’t going to happen on this trip.  Luckily, that was just a ruse to surprise her!  On a lovely beach in Hawaii, Michael asked Taryn to spend the rest of their lives adventuring together!!

I was so excited when Taryn contacted me about shooting their wedding!  Taryn is my husband’s cousin (in a family where the cousins are all very very close) and I also had the honor of photographing her big brother’s wedding in 2012.  I love getting to photograph weddings of people I care about so deeply…I get to be there on their day in a supporting role to make sure it goes off perfectly, and create beautiful artwork to remember it by.  When we started talking about their engagement session, we threw around a handful of ideas.  Taryn grew up in Wichita (which is obviously closer to me in KC), and we were together for family functions in Nebraska, but when it came down to it, they both really wanted to do them in Colorado.  They love their home and the beautiful mountains that they wake up to every morning, and really wanted to capture that for their session.  So it was decided…I would fly out for an engagement session in Garden of the Gods!  Spending a weekend with these two was a joy, and their session was out of this world!  They live within walking distance of the park, so they really knew the perfect spots to capture the beautiful location.  It was a bit chilly, but otherwise was a total blast and I was so honored to capture their love for them in a place they cherish so much.

I can barely control my excitement to head back to Colorado in July for Michael & Taryn’s wedding at the Evergreen Lake House!!  This was just a taste of the gorgeousness that I get the honor of photographing….guys, I love my job!!

  1. These are absolutely gorgeous! I’ve spent a lot of my childhood roaming the Garden of the Gods, and it’s so cool to see an engagement session bring these favorite spots to life in a new way!

  2. Catie says:

    These are so beautiful!
