In the last year it has become abundantly clear to me that it is vital for me, both as a person and as a small business owner, to fight for what is important to me. In the past, I haven’t talked much about anything that might be controversial on my platforms. To be honest, that comes from fear; fear of loosing or upsetting clients, fear of my business failing because of it, etc. But recently I made the decision that it mattered more to me that my business was supportive of all love and all people, than the business I might loose. The idea that a person (or a couple) would come to my site / social platforms and wouldn’t feel absolutely welcomed and loved breaks my heart. Because LOVE IS LOVE!!!
As a part of this, I signed up for Equally Wed’s LGBTQ+ Inclusivity Certification. It took some time to get through, but I’m so excited to announce that I have finished the program and have received my certification!!
Along these lines, I’ve also wanted to make sure that the vendors I recommend and those that I choose to work with for non-client projects are also lovingly inclusive. But that’s easier said than done; for a long time I adored LGBTQ+ couples but it probably wasn’t clear on my site!
So I’ve started a facebook group! The Kansas City LGBTQ+ Inclusive Wedding Community is a group for wedding professionals in Kansas City who are LGBTQ+ inclusive, and for couples who are LGBTQ+ or want to only support inclusive vendors. My hope for this group is that I’ll be able to support other vendors who are inclusive, and help couples find a safe space to search out their perfect vendors. Please join, share, and let me know what fun things you’d like to see in the group!
